Born in 1968, I worked in the IT corporate world for many years. Once my family had grown up I decided to pursue my lifelong interest in art.
Being a self taught artist, I spent much of my time experimenting with many different types of media over the years, I was looking to create my own unique style, free from any influences and totally original in the art world, something that had never been seen before. I have always been interested in Art and have worked in various forms from digital sunsets and landscapes to 3D holographic effects created in aluminium metal wall art over the years.
From my digital art experiences, I discovered fractals, infinite complex pictures of repeating geometric shapes that exist within nature, in the beauty of trees, rivers, snowflakes, mountains, clouds and crystals. I wanted to somehow recreate these amazing natural effects in paintings with an abstract twist.
This is where my journey started and over the following three years I attempted to create something that represented my interpretations of these formations in a painting.
Creating My Unique Style
I spent a lot of evenings and weekends experimenting with paint ideas in my quest for something totally original and unique that had never been seen before. I burned ridiculous amounts of money on paint and art materials, most of which ended up on the floor, on me, or in the bin. I went from the highs of eureka discovery moments to the lows of failures, more often than not. I strived to create my very own totally unique style which in the art world is a very difficult thing to achieve, but suddenly within the space of a month, it all suddenly came together and my style was there.
Beliefs and Inspiration
I read this quote on facebook and thought it very apt and a true reflection of my thoughts
“When buying from an artist, you’re purchasing more than just a painting. You are buying hundreds of hours of failures and experimentation. You are buying days, weeks and months of frustration and moments of pure joy. You aren’t just buying a thing, you’re buying a piece of heart, part of a soul, a moment in someone’s life. Most importantly, you’re buying the artist more time to do something they are passionate about”
Art is a very personal thing, that an individual has spent time and effort creating and truly reflects on the artist. It shows someone’s creativity and is only recognized by those with similar feelings.
